Only Samsung's S Pen Pro Works With SmartThings Find, and It Won't Fit the S26 Ultra

Samsung sells just one S Pen that SmartThings Find can track, a $100 stylus that does not fit inside the Galaxy S26 Ultra's pen slot.

Only Samsung's S Pen Pro Works With SmartThings Find, and It Won't Fit the S26 Ultra

Only one stylus in Samsung's S Pen lineup can be located through SmartThings Find, and it is sold separately, according to Engadget. The S Pen Pro costs $100 and is the sole S Pen the company officially supports for tracking through its device-finding service.

Samsung showed the S Pen Pro alongside the Galaxy S21 Ultra in January 2021 and put it on sale that August, when the Galaxy Z Fold 3 arrived with support for it. The Z Flip 3 launched in the same period but cannot use the pen. Other compatible handsets include the Note 10 and Note 20 families, the Galaxy S21 Ultra through S26 Ultra, and the Z Fold 4 through Z Fold 6.

The accessory is a bigger, rechargeable stylus. Its cap hides a USB-C charging port, and it carries a pairing button plus a switch for use with supported Galaxy devices. One drawback stands out: the pen is too large to sit in the built-in slot on the Galaxy S26 Ultra, which is awkward for an item meant to guard against loss.

Bluetooth alone does not make an S Pen findable. Samsung gave the Galaxy Note 9 a wireless pen in 2018 that could trigger the camera and control certain apps, and later Note models plus the Galaxy S22, S23 and S24 Ultra carried similar abilities. None of those built-in pens can be located with SmartThings Find. Samsung dropped Bluetooth from the S25 Ultra's pen, and the S26 Ultra followed suit.

Tablet pens vary too. Certain Galaxy Tab S Pens offer Air Actions over Bluetooth while others, including the one bundled with the Tab S9 FE, do not. The S Pen Fold Edition and the Creator Edition both ship without Bluetooth, so neither works with the tracking service.

Setting up tracking takes a few steps. Charge the pen, pick the right mode and press its Connection button for three seconds, then accept the connection prompt while signed in to a Samsung account. In SmartThings, users open Life, then Find, tap the three-dot menu and choose Settings to switch on device visibility and Offline finding. That option should be enabled before the pen goes missing.

Once paired, the pen appears under Life and Find, where a Refresh button updates its position on the map. Selecting More and then Navigate gives directions, and swiping up on the pen's details reveals Navigate and Blink light, which flashes the indicator for nearby searching. The separate Samsung Find app lists the S Pen Pro as well.

Owners of other S Pens can check Settings, Advanced features, S Pen and More S Pen settings for a warning that fires when the pen is left behind, where available. On the S26 Ultra, the phone alerts users when the stylus stays out of its slot for a while after the screen turns off. That is a reminder, not a locator, so it cannot say where in a room the pen rests.
