Airbnb to launch AI travel agent in first half of 2027
The company says its trip-planning agent will build a custom interface around each question instead of using a chat window.

Airbnb intends to release an AI agent that helps people plan and book trips during the first half of 2027, according to The Verge. The company disclosed the timing in its Q3 2026 earnings shareholder letter, which it released today.
The travel company described the product as an "AI-native" trip-planning experience that will begin rolling out next year. Airbnb said its agent will assist users with organizing travel and completing bookings.
In the letter, Airbnb drew a distinction between its plans and the abilities of current AI tools. It said today's agents handle straightforward, everyday jobs such as booking a table at a restaurant or setting up an appointment. Organizing a trip through Airbnb, the company argued, is a different kind of problem.
Airbnb pointed to three advantages it believes it holds. It cited its experience bringing hosts and guests together, its existing place in reservations, and a new interface designed with travel in mind.
The company also rejected the idea that a standard chatbot suits trip planning. Instead, it is building an experience that shapes the interface around the user's question. The agent will pull from a collection of hundreds of interface elements made for travel, including maps, photos, comparisons, calendars and itineraries, and assemble them in real time based on what the user wants.
According to the letter, the agent will let guests look through options, make choices together with the people they are traveling with, and act directly inside Airbnb.
Co-founder and CEO Brian Chesky had previously signaled a 2027 launch. Speaking at the Skift Global Forum, he said the interface would be considerably richer than a chatbot.
The shareholder letter also offered a broader view of AI's role at the company. Airbnb said the technology has been the best thing to ever happen to it, and that it has altered how the company builds products and runs its operations.
